FRANCESCA CABRINI

Francesca Cabrini was born in 1850 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, a very small country village near Milan.


She is the youngest daughter of 11 children.


She is a primary school teacher.

She leaves Italy and goes to the United States.


In New York she founds hospitals and orphanages but also schools for the children of
Italian immigrants. 

In her schools Italian children can learn English.

 

She crosses the Atlantic Ocean 24 times and goes to the "Cordillera of the Andes" riding a donkey.


She dies in 1917 in Chicago.


In 1950 she's proclaimed patron of all emigrants.

On 13th November 2010 the central station of Milan has been named to Francesca Cabrini.
